How do I configure Eudora?

Eudora is a program used for sending and receiving email. The newest version of Eudora is 5. If you don't have Eudora, or have an older version, you can go to www.eudora.com and download it for free.

When using it for the first time, you need to enter some configuration information. Open the Eudora program, choose Options from the Tools menu (Windows) or Settings from the Special menu (Mac) and a window should open that looks something like the one below. Follow the steps and you should be ready to receive your email.

Real Name

This should be your full name.

Return Address

Your email address goes here: username@yourdomain.com.

Mail server (Incoming)

mail.sarasa.net

Login Name

For basic accounts with their own domain name this will be the name assigned to your account. For example, "ezwx.com" would likely have the login name "ezwx".

Accounts with additional unique email accounts will use as their login name the first part of your email address, username@yourdomain.com).

SMTP server (Outgoing)

Set the SMTP server to the address of your access provider's outgoing mail server. For example, MSN users would set this to:

smtp.email.msn.com

AOL users: Although AOL use a proprietary mail system that does not support the Internet-standard SMTP protocol, the following settings have worked -

    Outgoing Mail SMTP server:
    tot-tk.proxy.aol.com

    Incoming Mail server
    mail.sarasa.net

There is also an "agent" program distributed by ENETBOT.com who claim that it allows AOL users to use any POP mail program (Eudora, Outlook, Netscape, Pegasus, etc). If you use this agent, be sure to set mail.sarasa.net as your incoming mailserver for use with your account.

When you're finished, click on the Checking Mail icon on the left side of the window. Now the window should look like the one below.

Mail Server and Login Name

These will be automatically filled in from the previous window. Just double check and make sure that they are correct.

Now click on the Incoming Mail button on the left side of the window.

Server Configuration

This is should be set to POP

Leave mail on server

We advise that this be UNCHECKED. All it does is fill up your account with old emails.

If you leave this checked, everytime you check your mail, it will remain on the server, AND your computer.

If you will be checking your mail from multiple different places (such as a computer at work, your machine at home, for example) then you could leave it checked so that the mail can be received from both places. Alternatively, you can set Eudora to delete the remove the read mail from the server after so many days.

Authentication style

This should be set to Passwords

Return Address and SMTP Server

These should be automatically filled in from the first window. Just verify that it is correct. Then hit OK.

You're done!
